Saying the right thing

February 16, 2007

Just received this email from a co-worker:

Saying The Right Thing

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company’s Christmas Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn’t taste like alcohol at all. He didn’t even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong.

Jack had to force himself to open his eyes and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose! Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Your first impression of an operating system, like your first impression when meeting another person, is often based on appearance. And Vista’s appearance does make an impression. With Aero Glass turned on, the transparent window borders, 3 D animations, and other visual effects make it clear (no pun intended) that this is a whole new Windows.

The housing market is difficult right now

February 6, 2007

How difficult? Why don’t you ask these guys:

Mortgage Lenders Network USA Inc. filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection Monday in Delaware. In papers filed with the court Tuesday, the company is asking the court to let it reject leases and contracts as well as permission to sell machinery and office equipment[…]

The company had employed 1,780 in November, but that has shrunk to 267 people at the time of the filing.

Priorities

February 6, 2007

Kelly’s mom came over for dinner last Monday night. Kelly had Crockpotted some delicious tortilla soup, and because I was running late at work that night, I called to let them know that I would be home shortly, and that they could start eating without me.

“Oh, no! We’ll wait. My mom just got here.”

How very nice of them, I thought.

So I get home, pull into the garage, and walk into the house. Upon entering the dining room, this is what I see:
