Bear in tree + trampoline * tranquilizer gun = comedy

This is hilarious (though I do feel bad that the poor guy landed on his noggin)

Finally - a diet I can live with

17 beers a day keep prostate cancer away
Theoretically, anyway, especially when taken with pizza with tomato sauce

An ingredient in beer seems to help prevent prostate cancer, at least in lab experiments.

The trouble is you’d theoretically have to drink about 17 beers a day for any potential benefit.

Woo hoo!

And no one’s advising that.

“It’s every man’s dream to hear that beer and pizza can prevent cancer,” he said. “However, the 17 beers and four large pizzas needed to get enough xanthohumol and lycopene to help prevent prostate cancer is unfortunately not advised.”

A Class Act

June 9, 2006

2015-11-04: You can REALLY tell that I hadn’t yet become a parent.

Just a little anecdote to share about an incident yesterday that gave me the warm fuzzies.

I’m taking summer school at Sac State. They break up the summer months into two six-week sessions, meaning that they have an abbreviated amount of time in which to cram a whole semester’s worth of information. You don’t want to miss class for even one day, or else you risk falling hopelessly behind.

Dominic in Armenia

June 5, 2006

Our friend Dominic left last week for a 27-month stint in the Peace Corps. He will be stationed somewhere in Armenia. If you know Dom, you can follow his adventures on his blog:

Even if you don’t know Dom, you should check it out anyway. He’s a pretty funny guy, and a good story teller.

Go Wolves!

May 30, 2006

Woodland High School’s baseball team won the DII Sac-Joaquin Section title last night against Bella Vista. That’s huge. IIRC, WHS hasn’t won the title since 1992 or 1993, so congrats to all, especially our friend Danny Eoff, the pitching coach!

Sac Bee article, reprinted in part for posterity:

Sac-Joaquin section baseball playoffs: Wolves satisfy their hunger for title
After falling short last year, Woodland routs Bella Vista.

Congrats, Chuck!

May 21, 2006

Chuck graduated from CSU Chico yesterday with a BS Finance. It couldn’t have been a nicer day - cool weather, no rain, and a little bit of sun peeking through the clouds every now and then. Anyway, kudos to Chuck for a job well done. Earning that degree is a huge accomplishment.

Adelman gone

May 9, 2006

I don’t like this. It’s not because of any profound basketball insight that I have, but rather that I’m frightened by the unknown. What’s next for the team now that the winningest coach in Sacramento-era franchise history is, uh, history? Will the new coaching staff be able to manage the various difficult personalities? Will the players gel and be able to work together within a new system? Who is staying with the team and who else will be leaving soon?
