July 31, 2006

Kelly and I decided it was time for a much-needed vacation, so we packed our bags and headed out to Park City, UT for some R&R. This is a log of our activities. It is more for my own sake so that when I’m old and senile, I can look back at what I did in my youth, but feel free to read on.

The last day. *sigh*

Check out time was 10am, so we didn’t have much time. We packed up, cleaned the condo, and then headed downtown for breakfast at The Eating Establishment. I decided to forgo Eggs Benedict for a house specialty called the Spanish Dawn. You can read all about it on their menu. I was a little weary at first, but it was gooood.

We woke up at 8:30am to start the day. The condo we’re staying at has a common clubhouse with wireless Internet access, so we took the laptop up there and plugged in for about 15 minutes. I was going on three whole days without checking my email, so I just had to get it out of my system.

We woke up at 7:30am to go hiking. By the time we got dressed and ate our breakfast*, it was about 9am. We drove around and finally found the Lost Prospector Loop. It’s a pretty flat trail that is used mostly by mountain bikers. The views were nice, but other than that it was a pretty unspectacular trail.

One of my all-time favorite Simpson’s moments:

Homer’s new BBQ pit

I love the ending.

Happy Anniversary

July 26, 2006

I guess it’s only fitting that I follow up a nuts post by wishing my lovely wife a Happy 3rd Anniversary!

Why is it fitting? I don’t know. It’s 5:30am. It sounded good when I wrote it. Shyaddup.

No more HoBalls

July 25, 2006

Dear Homer’s Nuts,

You’ve had a good life. Your host has long legs, so you haven’t had too many sticks scraping you. I’m a pretty nice guy, so you’ve had no owners kicking you. And your host is still young and flexible, so… well, I don’t have to tell YOU the benefits of that.

Anyhow, I write this as an apology. There was a Force to be reckoned with in our household that demanded you be silenced forever. “No more pillow humping!” “Stop eating through the fence to get at the in-heat bitch next door!” “Ew, they’re all hairy and bally!” Despite my many protests on your behalf, I could not come up with a logical argument to save your lives. For better or for worse, proof by vigorous assertion doesn’t fly in this household.

115 F

July 22, 2006

Working at a desk job for the past 7+ years has made me a bit of a pansy when it comes to hot weather. When I was a teenager, I used to work 12-hour days driving tractors, where at the peak of the day the temperature could be in the 130F range (damn you, Caterpillar). Now, I’m used to a controlled, 72F environment. So what am I doing today? Sitting in my air conditioned office at home, drinking an iced smoothie, and posting to my blog.

Uncouth Jon

July 18, 2006

On Sunday night, Rajiv had us over for a BBQ / pool party. It was a scorcher of a day. It must have still been hovering around 100 F when we ate at 6pm. Anyway, a couple pieces of tri-tip and a six pack of Fat Tire later, I was feeling great. And by great, I mean I had a serious heat- and alcohol-induced buzz going on.

We rolled out of there at about 10pm. Kelly was driving, of course, and she dropped our friend Heather off at her house before heading back to our place. As we drove up to our house, we noticed this young man and a very attractive woman leaning against a car in front of our neighbor’s house, “going at it.” (Turns out it was my neighbor’s brother.) As soon as they noticed us pulling up, they separated and played it off like pros. Yes, of course, they were just hanging out in the middle of the street at 10:30pm on a Sunday. Who doesn’t?

Jung type: ISTJ

July 17, 2006

I just took an online personality test, and it said my Jung type is ISTJ. The description is remarkably accurate:

Portrait of an ISTJ - Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging
(Introverted Sensing with Extraverted Thinking)

The Duty Fulfiller
As an ISTJ, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you take things in via your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion. Your secondary mode is external, where you deal with things rationally and logically.
